Thank you so much for helping us launch the challenge!
Kicking off on January 31st, Global WAKEcup and our charity partners the Marine Conservation Society are aiming to inspire millions of people around the world to take part in our "1 Week No Single-Use Plastic Challenge" over the course of 2022.
We know the harm plastic can do to the environment, particularly our oceans with 100's of thousands of marine animals and birds dying from plastic pollution each year. In addition, as all plastic is manufactured from oil, the plastic's industry is also a major contributor to climate change.
Our challenge is designed to highlight how ubiquitous single-use plastic is in our lives, from the throwaway coffee cup and single-use water bottle to the fruit and veg packaging which line every supermarket aisle.
But we want more...Direct action from Boris Johnson and the UK government this year to end single-use packaging in supermarkets, restaurants and cafes. We've had success banning plastic straws and cutlery and France has just announced an outright ban on food packaging, so why can't every country do the same?
We've started a petition to push the debate in UK parliament and are hopeful we can get the ban in force by the end of 2022! You can sign the petition by clicking this link
If you follow and message @globalwakecup on socials in particular instagram, we will send you campaign assets and there's also prizes for the best content produced.

Notes to editor.
Global WAKEcup is a zero waste reusables brand with a mission to end single use plastic pollution for good. Based in the UK, Global WAKEcup was born in 2018 after old friends Buffie and Nick got chatting about David Attenborough's iconic Blue Planet series and realised they needed to get involved in the fight against single-use plastics.
Fast forward to 2022, and the crisis is more urgent than ever.
Global WAKEcup is more than just stylish, sustainably sourced coffee cups and water bottles. It’s a movement towards a world where everyone can choose to reuse, and say no to single-use.
Why we need a zero waste revolution
Each year, 100 billion coffee cups end up in landfill. A plastic bottle can take up to 1000 years to decompose. By 2050, there could be more plastic in the oceans than fish. We can't recycle our way out of this problem, we need to act urgently. WAKEcup and smell the coffee!
